Have You Heard of Landscape Glue?

You love the rustic charm of a gravel walkway, but the constant scattering of stones across your lawn and patio can be a real headache. Whether it’s from pets, lawnmowers, or just foot traffic, it seems impossible to keep those stones in place. Sound familiar? Well, Brian shows us a simple DIY method using landscape glue to keep your gravel path looking pristine and, more importantly, in place.

Is Landscape Glue Real?

The secret weapon? Landscape glue. Yes, you read that right! This genius product is designed specifically to hold down mulch, stones, and other landscaping materials. It provides a strong hold while still allowing for drainage, preventing puddling, and ensuring your path remains functional. Plus, it's generally pet-safe once dry. (Read the manufacturer label) In this video, Brian shows you the process of applying it to your gravel walkway.

What’s The Problem with Gravel?

Gravel driveways offer both aesthetic and practical benefits, making them a popular choice for homeowners. They are cost-effective compared to concrete or asphalt, and their easy maintenance allows for simple repairs by adding more gravel to worn areas. The rustic, natural look of gravel can enhance the visual appeal of various landscaping styles, with options for different colors and sizes. They can also help with draining, making them a versatile option. However, the loose stones inevitably migrate, creating messy edges, bare patches, and a constant need for raking and tidying. People, pets, and lawnmowers all contribute to the problem, turning your picturesque path into a maintenance nightmare.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Using Landscape Glue:

  1. Clean Up: The first step is crucial. Meticulously clear the existing gravel from the surrounding areas. Use your hands to carefully place the stones back onto the path, removing any debris like leaves or grass. The goal is to create a clean, tidy surface ready for the adhesive. Avoid using a rake for this step, as it can inadvertently spread debris.
  2. Gentle Debris Removal: Once the gravel is back in place, use a leaf blower on a low setting to remove any remaining debris. Be extremely careful not to blast the gravel out of place. The aim is to clear the surface without disturbing the carefully arranged stones.
  3. Test Patch: Before tackling the entire path, it's wise to test the landscape glue on a small, inconspicuous area. This allows you to preview the results and ensure you're happy with the appearance.
  4. Mixing and Preparation: Carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing the landscape glue. Some products require shaking, while others need stirring. Pour the mixed solution into a sprayer.
  5. Application: Using a sprayer, apply the landscape glue evenly over the gravel path. Ensure the stones are thoroughly saturated, allowing the glue to soak in. Be precise and avoid spraying the surrounding pavers or other surfaces.
  6. Drying Time: Allow the landscape glue to dry completely, typically overnight. The manufacturer may recommend applying a second coat after the first has dried. Follow the instructions on the product label for optimal results.
  7. The Big Test: After the recommended drying time, your gravel path should be transformed. Test its resilience by walking on it and even using a leaf blower to clear away any new debris. You'll be amazed at how well the gravel stays in place.

A Gravel Path That Stays Put

With the application of landscape glue, your gravel walkway will maintain its charming aesthetic without the constant hassle of scattered stones. Enjoy a beautiful, low-maintenance path that enhances your outdoor space. No more chasing runaway gravel – just a pristine pathway that stays put, come rain or shine. Give it a try and transform your garden pathways into tidy, elegant features you’ll love. Share your results on social media and tag us!
