How to Improve Furnace and Central Air Efficiency

Learn how allergens and dust can clog your home's air filters, reducing the efficiency of your home's furnace or air conditioning system.

Dirty air filter

Unless you spend all of your time outdoors, chances are you'll be running your air conditioning or furnace this year. If you do, you'll want it to run smoothly and efficiently.

The first step? Replace the filter every three months or so, or it will end up looking like this: full of dust and dirt, which reduces air flow through the furnace or air conditioner.

When the filter is clogged with dust, your air conditioning or heating system can't "breathe," so it won't run efficiently.

New air filter
When you buy a new filter, buy one that will filter the smallest of particles: dust mites and allergens. It may cost a little more, but it will help you out in the long run.

Before you go shopping, make sure to write down the size on your old filter. It will save you a trip!
