If you've looked at garbage disposals lately, you know there is a wide range of prices: from just over $60 to nearly $200! If you choose a more expensive model, what do you get for your money?
The larger and more powerful the disposals are, the quieter they generally run. This is because more expensive models are made with quieter motors and sound dampening insulation. Higher end models also have stainless steel grinders and stainless steel grind chambers. Finally, when you get to the upper end of the pricing spectrum you will find disposals that have an auto reversing feature to help prevent jamming.

There are two basic types of garbage disposals: the continuous feed type that operates from a wall switch, and the batch type, that turns on when you put the top in, and turns off when you remove it.
If you have a septic tank, you might be concerned about even using a disposer. You may want to consider purchasing a unit that injects a small amount of enzymes each time it operates. This is intended to keep your septic healthy!
