Yes, it's true, you can go out and buy pre-made shelving units that will work just fine.  On the other hand, if you you really like the idea of building something with your own two hands that a child can use though all their growing years, then this project is for you.  Made entirely of wood and hardboard, it's a sturdy unit that can turn any wall into a workspace, library or display area.   I would recomment a table saw for building this and you'll also want to use the portable drill press shown in the video.
